Construction Observer / Resident Engineer

Job Description:

HLA is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Construction Observer/Resident Engineer to join our growing team.  As part of the construction management team, the successful candidate performs a range of duties related to observing public works, infrastructure, and private development construction projects.  This is a full-time hourly position with the potential for overtime. 

Responsibilities:

• Conduct on-site observation of construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents, project plans, specifications, and regulations.
• Review submittals from contractors to ensure quality and completeness.
• Communicate and coordinate with contractors, project managers, and clients to resolve issues and ensure project progress.
• Prepare daily inspection reports and maintain accurate records of all inspection activities including photographing work performed, verification of materials, documentation of force account activity, quantity tracking, field records, and other related activities.
• Ensure construction activities comply with all safety regulations.
• Complete all assigned tasks in a timely fashion, be diligent in field procedures and maintain company standards.

• 3+ years construction observation or related experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates degree preferred.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and various terrains.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing.
• Time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Experience with Federal, Washington State and Local Agency funded projects.
• Experience maintaining construction records, documenting daily construction activities, and writing related reports as well as familiarity with the WSDOT Standard Specifications.
• A motivated, positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Compensation for this position ranges from $4,300.00 to $7,200.00 per month depending on experience and number of hours worked.  HLA offers a competitive benefits package including an annual bonus, Paid Time Off, 7 paid Holidays, Company paid Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance, and a 401(k)-profit sharing plan with employer contributions.
