Union Gap received FY 2018 Water Quality Combined (WQC) Financial Assistance from the Washington State Department of Ecology to design stormwater improvements within the City. The City later received FY 2022 WQC funding to construct the design. This project intercepted existing stormwater flows by constructing catch basins and infiltration facilities to eliminate untreated discharges from City right-of-way flowing into Wide Hollow Creek, Spring Creek, and ultimately the Yakima River. Treatment was provided to 6.26 acres of pollution generating impervious surface and included curb and gutter, more than 4,500 LF of storm facilities, 68 storm drainage structures, new sidewalk, watermain revisions, and installation of 14 ADA compliant curb ramps.
HLA provided assistance acquiring Ecology funding and administration, site surveying, environmental compliance, project formulation and final engineering design, and bidding services. Construction services included inspection and observation, bond and insurance review, construction meetings, submittal review, and other support tasks.
